  About us

Internet Compliance Network (ICN) and the ICN Consumer Protection Check-List were created by EDP to help consumers make informed and intelligent internet purchasing decisions.  The Internet is the new frontier for commerce.  Like the wild-west of old, this new frontier continuously brings new opportunities for consumers but presents an equal number of traps, both intended and unintended, for consumers who are not experienced in what information to look for and what types of Internet sites to avoid.

The ICN Consumer Protection Check-List started as EDP’s self-imposed guidelines for ensuring its websites provided the necessary information for its customers to make informed decisions about whether to purchase EDP product offerings.  But EDP quickly realized that these self-imposed guidelines should really be a standard of best-practices for all Internet commerce and decided to make this list public in the hope that consumers would learn the basics to make good purchasing decisions and to avoid scams, and that legitimate Internet vendors and marketers would ensure their sites adhere to these best practices.

  Our Goal

1

ICN Inspections

ICN conducts regular inspections of all EDP websites to monitor compliance with regulatory compliance guidelines so that consumers can make an informed decision about purchasing or applying for an EDP product or service.

2   ICN Determination

ICN is determined to teach consumers what they must look for in websites to make an informed decision whether to purchase or apply for a product or service on a particular website.

3   ICN Future

ICN plans to build and operate an online destination  allowing consumers to report websites that are believed to be “non-complaint” and if a site does not meet the minimum requirements detailed on the ICN Check-List.  ICN also plans to launch a logo program so that websites who provide consumers information in compliance with the ICN Check-List can use the logo as a means of supporting ICN’s activities; telling consumers that the business believes consumers should have the necessary information to make informed decisions about buying products and services; and to provide a monitoring system for ICN to review logo websites to make sure compliance ICN Check-List standards are maintained.

If, upon periodic review, icomplynet discovers that the site has changed or required upgrading to meet new standards, icomplynet will block that site from displaying its compliance logo. Visit www.icomplynet.com for a list of websites that have been reviewed and are allowed to continue to display the icomplynet logo.
